NZOAD April 2026 Update

Since our last update in December, no further information has been received from WorkSafe or MBIE regarding the new rulings for amusement devices that was initiated by the previous Minister.

However, WorkSafe has informed us that they are in the early stages of improving the amusement device registration and re-registration regime. This includes transitioning the current traditional paper‑based methods (pdf) to a more modern, digital application process. The core information required will remain largely the same, while the user interface, internal record keeping, supporting documentation and online tooling are updated.

WorkSafe intends to roll out these changes in three stages. A focus‑group review in is planned early May, with a public update and system availability expected late June to July. This will be followed by the internal bedding‑in period.

NZOAD and associated engineers have been invited to participate in this focus group. As part of this, we welcome your feedback on what would make registration process more user friendly for you.

We have also contacted Minister Brooke van Velden several times seeking clarification on the two proposals relating to the local authority permitting. As of the time of writing, we are still awaiting a response and confirmation on whether any significant progress has been made. NZOAD will continue to follow up and keep members informed as updates become available.

NZOAD is currently refreshing and maintaining both its Facebook page and website. You can follow and view these platforms using the links below.

We also welcome any feedback, questions, or matters you would like NZOAD to address.

Many Thanks
